Advice for British boaters venturing across the English channel 19-07-2013
British boaters are entitled to an exemption for duty on the diesel used in their boats providing it is used fuel diesel powers appliances such as heaters and generators. To make this regulation practical and applicable in the UK an agreement was made with the British Tax agency HMRC allowing a declaration of use which is generally accepted to be a 60/40 split propulsion/domestic. The challenge for British boaters is, 'Is this fuel legal in other countries?'

In short the answer is yes but it is the boat owners responsibility to prove it has been purchased in the UK. The RYA have issued guidelines for using Red Diesel Abroad. Please visit the following link for more information:
