TYHA announces Jon White as new General Manager 28-04-2014
British Marine Federation (BMF) group, The Yacht Harbour Association (THYA), is delighted to announce Jon White as its new General Manager. Jon begins the role today, Monday 28 April and will direct the 482-strong member association which supports and develops the marina industry.

Jon is a very experienced marine professional having spent 17 years at the RYA (Royal Yachting Association), latterly as part of its senior management team. After running its windsurfing section Jon spent the past nine years setting up and firmly establishing the sports development department, with backing from Sport England. The department, which grew to some 24 people, had responsibility for working with clubs and centres to increase regular participation and make the sport more accessible. Jon brings with him a valuable understanding of the industry, having created the Active Marinas programme which involved a broad spectrum from windsurfing to large yachts.

Sarah Hanna, Chairman of TYHA, said: We are thrilled to welcome Jon to the team. Bringing in such a well respected person within the industry, with a proven track record, is a real coup for the association.

The next 12 months will be a busy time for Jon. Initial activities include consolidating the growth TYHA has enjoyed over the years, reviewing the world-renowned Gold Anchor Award scheme to ensure standards are maintained and continuing to support marina members.

Jon White commented: Im delighted to be joining THYA and BMF. Participation in boating is at the heart of everything we do within the whole marine industry, both inland and coastal, and I will bring my wealth of experience to the role to be of benefit to our members.

Jon begins his role at THYA by meeting the seven assessors for the Gold Anchor scheme, covering Europe, Asia and the Caribbean, to discuss the scheme and potential improvements. The scheme, which has been running for 27 years, is active in 28 countries; 141 marinas are currently awarded Gold Anchor status, demonstrating quality and professionalism in the industry.
